When did the Liberal government go tone deaf?

October 30, 2016

How does a government suddenly go tone deaf?

It’s as if the Liberal cabinet was frolicking along among its doting public when an explosion went off at close range, rattling their hearing. Before, they had perfect pitch — in opposition, during the election, even after it — for instance, in how they handled the Syrian refugee issue. Then Kaboom — they lose their sense of balance, they can’t even hear themselves.

CETA: Canada Has Challenged The EU’s Chemical Regulations 21 Times

October 30, 2016

The Canadian government raised concerns over the European Union’s regulations on chemicals on more than 20 occasions over the course of a decade, according to a letter seen by Energydesk.

In a note sent to the Belgian government on October 19, the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) claims that the Canadian state challenged the EU’s REACH regulations at the World Trade Organisation 21 times between the years 2003 and 2011.

The UK’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) describes the REACH regulations as providing “a high level of protection of human health and the environment from the use of chemicals.”

Thousands of Canadians raise their voices against TPP

October 27, 2016

Council of Canadians delivered 20,000 petitions against the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal to Parliament Hill.

“It’s difficult to imagine a world where Canada would turn its back on [the Trans-Pacific Partnership given it includes] three of its top five trading partners. We established very clearly during the campaign that we’re a pro-trade party,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday.

‘Justin Trudeau continuing proud Liberal tradition of betraying Indigenous peoples’..

October 27, 2016

One year into this federal government’s mandate, I see history repeating itself. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is using his majority government to break or manipulate his 2015 Indigenous platform promises, aided and abetted by his Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould and his Indigenous Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett.

To me, Trudeau’s biggest betrayal so far is his backsliding on his promise to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

I come not to bury Justin Trudeau but to praise him. Sort of.

Justin Trudeau greeted by heckles and jeers at youth labour forum

October 25, 2016

Dozens of delegates at a youth labour forum turned their backs Tuesday on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, using body language to express their frustrations with everything from global warming to so-called precarious work.

‘Gord Downie Was Wrong About Justin Trudeau’

October 25, 2016

If this initial year is a Trudeau policy barometer, the First Nations file is the first casualty of the disconnect between his rhetoric and the expected follow through behind it. Tragically, the gap between speeches and actions is just as vast as it has been for decades under previous Liberal and Conservative governments.

Our last chance to knock down the TPP is here, let’s seize it!

October 23, 2016

This is where you come in. We are asking Canadians to seize the last chance to speak out on the record against the TPP using our Lets Talk TPP tool. If you’re still not convinced about why this is a such bad deal and why it’s essential that you speak out against it, here’s a brief and gentle reminder..
