Greta Thunberg meets Justin Trudeau amid climate strikes: ‘He is not doing enough’..

September 28, 2019

The teen activist Greta Thunberg has urged Justin Trudeau and other world leaders to do more for the environment as she led half a million protesters in Montreal as part of a global wave of “climate strikes.”

The 16-year-old Swede met privately with the Canadian prime minister but later told a news conference with local indigenous leaders that he was “not doing enough” to curb greenhouse gases responsible for global warming.

“My message to all the politicians around the world is the same. Just listen and act on the current best available science,” she said.

Gentrification under Trudeau’s nose: is a Montreal university pushing out the poor?..

September 26, 2019

Parc-Ex, one of Canada’s poorest areas and part of Justin Trudeau’s riding, has just welcomed a new University of Montreal campus that aims to position the city at the edge of AI research – but residents say there’s a huge cost..

‘I’m less offended by Justin Trudeau’s blackface than I am by his policies.. Faux-liberalism has swept the globe — and it’s dangerous’..

September 25, 2019

As elections loom, revelations from Justin Trudeau’s past — specifically times when he donned black- and brownface in an offensive parody of minority communities — have shaken up liberal Canada. But such discoveries came as little surprise to me from a man whose government has an appalling track record with minority rights and who has been accused of cultural appropriation while in office.

The global climate strike is just the beginning..

September 24, 2019

The global climate strike wasn’t intended to “amaze” so-called leaders about “the kids” and allow them to make generic statements about climate change to conceal their pro-fossil fuel industry policies and actions.

The Canadian environment minister whose government bought an 890,000-barrel-per-day tar sands pipeline patronizingly tweeted, “The kids demanding climate action in New York, across Canada, and around the world have it right — It is about their future.”

The prime minister retweeted a local Liberal MP’s tweet, “Climate change affects us all. But nobody will be affected more than our youth. Proud of our community’s youth for speaking up about what matters to them.”

The climate strike wasn’t intended to make MPs proud about “our youth” (sigh); it was meant to spur action at the United Nations Climate Action Summit this week.

Unfortunately, the Liberal government isn’t about to take a whole new Green New Deal agenda to the UN this week.

‘We’re in it for all of you,’ Scheer tells Etobicoke crowd — with no Doug Ford in sight..

September 18, 2019

It was a campaign pit stop in the heart of Ford Nation, just a 10-minute walk from the Etobicoke home of Ontario’s premier.

But there was no Doug Ford at federal Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer’s speech to Etobicoke Centre supporters Wednesday night.

Nor was there any mention of him — even if the spirit of Scheer’s brief address echoed his provincial counterpart’s promises to back “the little guy.”..

Conservative leader Andrew Scheer claims his campaign promise of tax giveaways are “targeted specifically at taxpayers in the lowest-income tax bracket.”

But it seems economists disagree.

September 14, 2019

We should consider this election a privilege. For the first time, the top issue in voters’ minds is the main threat not only to Canada but to organized human life: environmental crisis. How often does that happen? Never.

Trudeau kept some important promises but broke many big ones..

September 12, 2019

On October 20, 2015, the morning after the last federal election, published a list of 16 of newly elected Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s many promises.

Now that we’re in a new election campaign, it might be instructive to look back and see how many of those promises Trudeau kept.

Have a look at the full list below and judge for yourself.
